Angela Hawse - Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series

ABOUT THIS EVENT
Livestreamed and In-Person

Meet Angela Hawse

Angela Hawse, one of very few women excelling as a professional mountain guide, has been in the business of taking folks on trips of a lifetime throughout the world for over 35 years. In 2023, she received the AMGA Lifetime Achievement in Guiding Award for her work. Additionally, she was the 6th woman in the U.S. to become an IFMGA Mountain Guide, the 1st woman to join the AMGA Instructor Team 20 years ago, and is now the 1st woman and the 1st non-European person to serve on the IFMGA Technical Commission. Angela’s show, “Small, but Mighty” will bring you along on her path less traveled which has required grit, passion, determination, compromise and commitment to go the distance, come back and do it again.

"Small, but Mighty"

Angela’s show, “Small, but Mighty” will bring you along on her path less traveled which has required grit, passion, determination, compromise and commitment to go the distance, come back and do it again. Her work pioneering and paving a rocky road for women in a male-dominated profession parallels many inspiring adventures she’s done with clients and partners throughout her career.

Angela’s Nonprofit Beneficiary: Headwaters Science Institute

Headwaters Science Institute is a science education nonprofit dedicated to fostering curiosity through science. For students of all ages, Headwaters expands horizons, introducing students to research concepts and providing hands-on opportunities to ask and answer questions.

From weeklong school programs to summer camps and from after school extracurriculars to overnight camping opportunities, Headwaters makes science fun and accessible for students in elementary, middle, and high school. Headwaters staff and mentors have extensive training and backgrounds in both scientific fields and education, and this combination serves Headwaters well in providing the best experiences for students across their programs.

MORE ABOUT THE ALPENGLOW SPORTS WINTER SPEAKER SERIES

The Poetry Program at the Community of Writers is founded on the belief that when poets gather in a community to write new poems, each poet may well break through old habits and write something stronger and truer than before. To help this happen we work together to create an atmosphere in which everyone might feel free to try anything. In the mornings we meet in workshops to read to each other the work of the previous twenty-four hours; each participant also has an opportunity to work with each staff poet. In the late afternoons we gather for a conversation about some aspect of craft. On several afternoons staff poets hold brief individual conferences. Director: Brenda Hillman.
