Dave Nettle - Alpenglow Winter Speaker Series

ABOUT THIS EVENT
Livestreamed and In-Person

Meet Dave Nettle

Dave Nettle, cofounder of the Alpenglow Sports Winter Speaker Series, and often touted as one of the best storytellers alive, rounds out our 19th annual season with his presentation of "Patagonia: A Climber’s Journey Shaped by Wind and Stone.” When Dave is on stage, he makes you feel as if he is a dear friend hanging out in your living room, sharing stories from his latest adventures. Equal parts humorous, educational, honest, and encouraging, he leaves you with the urge to travel, and the sheer excitement that only  adventure can induce.

"Patagonia - A Climbers Journey"

The wild and remote place called Patagonia is a vast area encompassing the land of Argentina and Chile, between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and below latitude 39 degrees south to the Strait of Magellan. It’s almost completely untouched, with a few small urban centers acting as drop off points to huge expanses of wilderness that contain everything from volcanoes and glaciers to deep fjords and pampas. Even with all this region has to offer, it’s the dramatic towers and walls of granite and ice that dominate Los Glaciares and Torres del Paine National Parks that draw alpinists to this magical place.

Dave’s Nonprofit Beneficiary: TAMBA

The Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that builds, maintains, and advocates for multi-use trails in Tahoe while providing education to all trail users and hosting fun community events. TAMBA works in partnership with land managers such as the U.S. Forest Service, Nevada State Parks, California State Parks, and the City of South Lake Tahoe. TAMBA helps maintain more than 100 miles of trail per year.

MORE ABOUT THE ALPENGLOW SPORTS WINTER SPEAKER SERIES

The Poetry Program at the Community of Writers is founded on the belief that when poets gather in a community to write new poems, each poet may well break through old habits and write something stronger and truer than before. To help this happen we work together to create an atmosphere in which everyone might feel free to try anything. In the mornings we meet in workshops to read to each other the work of the previous twenty-four hours; each participant also has an opportunity to work with each staff poet. In the late afternoons we gather for a conversation about some aspect of craft. On several afternoons staff poets hold brief individual conferences. Director: Brenda Hillman.
