Meet Greg Hill
Greg Hill, or the “2-Million Foot Man” as he is known amongst peers, is a wildly accomplished professional skier, guide, filmmaker, speaker, dad, and author. His most recent venture? A bare all look at his life in his newly published memoir, I Could Die At Any Moment. What started as an answer to a question he is often asked - why is living a life of adventure worth the risk? - turned into a deep examination of his life and legacy. It is from this reflective experience that his show was born. On Friday, January 24th, join Greg on his journey of reflection in "Chapters of Our Lives”. Part vulnerability and humility, and part trying to explain, maybe even convince, what drives him to continue this lifestyle, this show is an honest reflection of his life to date.
"Chapters of Our Lives"
Through the writing process, Hill was struck by two themes that seemed to accompany him from chapter to chapter — the why’s of risk taking and the challenges that come with having kids and raising a family while living on the edges. Additionally, he was able to pinpoint and reflect on key learnings that he has been confronted with along the way. From world records, to massive vertical days, to eventually almost dying in Pakistan, all of his experiences have been laden with lessons.
Greg’s Nonprofit Beneficiary: The Courage Project
By compassionately and thoughtfully introducing children to inspiring mountain adventures in world-class Lake Tahoe, the Courage Project provides children with experiences that challenge their expectations regarding their capabilities. Our goal is to help children with anxiety and depression believe in their ability to live their lives to the fullest. With the help of incredible volunteers and a team of amazing athletes, the Courage Project is making a difference in the lives of children and families, one adventure at a time. The Courage Project is entering it's second year of Winter Speaker Series support.
MORE ABOUT THE ALPENGLOW SPORTS WINTER SPEAKER SERIES
The Poetry Program at the Community of Writers is founded on the belief that when poets gather in a community to write new poems, each poet may well break through old habits and write something stronger and truer than before. To help this happen we work together to create an atmosphere in which everyone might feel free to try anything. In the mornings we meet in workshops to read to each other the work of the previous twenty-four hours; each participant also has an opportunity to work with each staff poet. In the late afternoons we gather for a conversation about some aspect of craft. On several afternoons staff poets hold brief individual conferences. Director: Brenda Hillman.
