ABOUT THIS EVENT

NBCC Awards Finalists Announcement for Books Published in 2022

Each year, the National Book Critics Circle presents awards for the finest books published in English in six categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Biography, Autobiography, Poetry, and Criticism.

In addition, we award the John Leonard Prize for the best first book in any genre, voted on by NBCC membership; the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing, which recognizes outstanding work by a member of the NBCC; and the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Award and Toni Morrison Achievement Award, which are given respectively to individuals and literary institutions for transformative contributions to book culture. Beginning in 2023, we’ll award the Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize, for the best book of any genre translated into English and published in the United States.

Please join us as we announce the finalists for books published in 2022.

MORE ABOUT NBCC

The National Book Critics Circle (NBCC), a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, honors outstanding writing and fosters a national conversation about reading, criticism, and literature. It was founded in 1974 to encourage and raise the quality of book criticism in all media and to create a way for critics to communicate with one another about their professional concerns. It consists of more than 700 active book reviewers, plus approximately 200 student members and supporting friends.

Regular voting membership is open to professional book review editors and book reviewers. Also available are non-voting memberships for those in the publishing field and a non-voting student membership. If you would like to join, please visit www.bookcritics.org

Please considering making a tax-deductible donation to NBCC. Every dollar goes to supporting and encouraging the art and craft of literary criticism.
